For some of us, it may have been <em>more<\/em> than one book. For others, perhaps we\u2019re still on the lookout for the book with the \u201cA-ha\u201d moment that makes it all click.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For me, that book was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Fifth-Discipline-Practice-Learning-Organization\/dp\/0385517254\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Fifth-Discipline-Practice-Learning-Organization\/dp\/0385517254\"><em>Fifth Discipline<\/em><\/a> by Peter Senge. It\u2019s one of my all-time favorite books. It can read a little academic, but it shaped my view on the definition, value and importance of a shared company vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re still waiting to find your transformative read\u200a\u2014\u200aor if you enjoy continually learning and honing your<a href=\"https:\/\/canopy.is\/blog\/2018\/02\/01\/the-5-ways-to-improve-your-self-awareness-as-a-leader\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_campaign=book-recommendations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> leadership development<\/a>\u200a\u2014\u200ahere are six great books on leadership as recommended by the executives and founders who are a part of our online community for leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. \u201c<\/strong><a data-href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Maverick-Success-Behind-Unusual-Workplace\/dp\/0446670553\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Maverick-Success-Behind-Unusual-Workplace\/dp\/0446670553\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Maverick: The Success Story Behind the World\u2019s Most Unusual Business<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u201d by Ricardo Semler<\/strong>: \u201cHere\u2019s this guy running a major industrial company with 8,000 employees, and he\u2019s doing all sorts of unconventional stuff, and it\u2019s working,\u201d one member wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. \u201c<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Punished-Rewards-Trouble-Incentive-Praise\/dp\/0618001816\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Punished-Rewards-Trouble-Incentive-Praise\/dp\/0618001816\"><strong>Punished by Rewards: The Trouble with Gold Stars, Incentive Plans, A\u2019s, Praise and Other Bribes<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u201d by Alfie Kohn<\/strong>: \u201cDo rewards motivate people?\u201d Kohn asks. \u201cYes, they motivate people to get rewards.\u201d Kohn offers a more successful strategy for working with people rather than doing things to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. \u201c<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Effective-Executive-Definitive-Harperbusiness-Essentials-ebook\/dp\/B000FC11JW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Effective-Executive-Definitive-Harperbusiness-Essentials-ebook\/dp\/B000FC11JW\"><strong>The Effective Executive: The Definitive Guide to Getting the Right Things Done<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u201d by Peter Drucker<\/strong>: Drucker examines how managers <em>actually<\/em> spend their time versus how they <em>think <\/em>they spend their time and what the gap between the two tells us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. \u201c<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Turn-Ship-Around-Turning-Followers\/dp\/1591846404\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Turn-Ship-Around-Turning-Followers\/dp\/1591846404\"><strong>Turn the Ship Around: A True Story of Turning Followers into Leaders<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u201d by David Marquet:<\/strong> This book was described as \u201ca wonderful illustration of having people live up to your high expectations rather than down to your fears.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. \u201c<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.danpink.com\/books\/drive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"http:\/\/www.danpink.com\/books\/drive\/\"><strong>Drive<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u201d by Daniel Pink:<\/strong> Pink examines the elements of true motivation\u200a\u2014\u200aautonomy, mastery and purpose\u200a\u2014\u200awhile exposing the \u201cmismatch\u201d between what science knows and what business does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6. \u201c<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.radicalcandor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.radicalcandor.com\/\"><strong>Radical Candor<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u201d by Kim Scott: <\/strong>Scott shows managers how to be successful while retaining their humanity and creating an environment where people love their work and those with whom they work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s your favorite book for leadership development?
