I\u2019m continually surprised by the lessons they share\u200a\u2014\u200aas well as the humility and introspection required to share their stories and their struggles with me for <a href=\"https:\/\/canopy.is\/blog\/podcast\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_campaign=heartbeat-advice-four-leaders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"http:\/\/theheartbeat.news\">The Heartbeat<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s some of my favorite advice from our recent guests\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/canopy.is\/blog\/podcast\/episode-16-interview-with-daniel-houghton-ceo-of-lonely-planet\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_campaign=heartbeat-advice-four-leaders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/blog.knowyourcompany.com\/watch-our-lessons-for-leaders-the-heartbeat-interview-%EF%B8%8F-with-daniel-houghton-ceo-of-lonely-9fdf9fea5112\"><strong>Daniel Houghton<\/strong><\/a><strong>, CEO of <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/lonelyplanet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"http:\/\/lonelyplanet.com\/\"><strong>Lonely Planet<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> the world\u2019s largest travel guide book publisher, took over as CEO when he was 24 years old. Yes, you read that right: 24 years old. This meant he had to learn on the job fast. To get up to speed and tackle the steep learning curb as a new leader, he said: <em>\u201cI do love to read and I read a lot of books. Also, if you hire the right people, you don\u2019t have to know how to do everything, but you do need to be able to learn from those people. That, and a whole laundry list of mentors.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/canopy.is\/blog\/podcast\/episode-14-interview-with-laura-roeder-founder-ceo-of-meetedgar\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_campaign=heartbeat-advice-four-leaders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/blog.knowyourcompany.com\/watch-our-lessons-for-leaders-the-heartbeat-interview-%EF%B8%8F-with-laura-roeder-founder-ceo-of-ff15e5094b5c\"><strong>Laura Roeder<\/strong><\/a><strong>, founder and CEO of <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/meetedgar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/meetedgar.com\/\"><strong>MeetEdgar<\/strong><\/a><strong>, <\/strong>a social media scheduling tool with more than 7,000 customers. She bootstrapped her company to $4 million in annual recurring revenue in 2.5 years. The one thing Laura wished she had learned earlier in her career? <em>\u201cReally letting go and letting the people you work with have ownership and make decisions without you. I feel like for me that\u2019s been the constant process of leadership that I\u2019m still definitely working on and still learning.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/canopy.is\/blog\/podcast\/episode-15-interview-with-dan-mall-founder-of-superfriendly-ceo-of-superbooked\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_campaign=heartbeat-advice-four-leaders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/blog.knowyourcompany.com\/watch-our-lessons-for-leaders-the-heartbeat-interview-%EF%B8%8F-with-dan-mall-founder-of-superfriendly-f0d7f87ab173?source=collection_category---4------2----------------\"><strong>Dan Mall<\/strong><\/a><strong> is the founder of <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/superfriend.ly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"http:\/\/superfriend.ly\/\"><strong>SuperFriendly<\/strong><\/a><strong>, <\/strong>a design collaborative with clients like Apple, ESPN and Time Magazine. He is also the CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/superbooked.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/superbooked.com\/\">SuperBooked<\/a>, and the author of <a href=\"https:\/\/abookapart.com\/products\/pricing-design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/abookapart.com\/products\/pricing-design\"><em>Pricing Design<\/em><\/a>. Dan\u2019s take on leaders: <em>\u201cThey\u2019re the ones leading the charge, but actually generals are the ones in the back. They need to have purview. They need to be able to see everything. They need to be able to support people. As a prominent expert on workplace dynamics, Amy offers this advice:<em> \u201cI think I wish knew earlier the importance that co-workers as friends in your life, both from just making you feel supported and making work feel fun and exciting, but also from a performance perspective.
